Open Question: A/V Receiver not getting audio signal from HD TV?
I have a laptop with BluRay player and HDMI output. My TV set is HD and accepts HDMI input. My TV set is connected to A/V Receiver (No HDMI input/output) with Optical cable to to send audio signals to receiver from TV. When I play BluRay disks on my laptop, my TV set receives audio+video signal with no problem thru HDMI cable. However, the audio signal is not being received by the AV Receiver. Audio for Satellite broadcasting works fine. But, when BluRay players sends HDMI signals to TV set, it appears that the AV Receiver having problem with the HDMI signal. Any idea? Thanks.

Open Question: Best LCD/Plasma television for watching movies (not actual television) for the cheapest price?
I've been looking into getting a television for my bedroom for watching DVD's and such, but every of the televisions that I've seen are very expensive. I've been looking at the cheaper Sony and Vizio televisions because their the least expensive, but what would you say is the best "bang for my buck" regarding TVs? I would prefer one over 30 inches and maybe HD. If it helps any, I don't/can't watch actual cable, so it's just DVD's/Bluray for me. Thanks!

Open Question: Xbox 360 High Definition on a Regular DVD Disc?
How are game developers able to put high definition content on a dual layered DVD Disc for the 360? I mean, wouldn't they have to lessen the quality. The PS3's bluray disc can have up to 50gigs of space. But arrive on, how are developers able to put a game that is about 30 gigs via ps3 (if they ever decided to make a game that huge) on a XBOX 360 dual layered DVD disc? What was Microsoft thinking? I know they couldn't possibly compress that much data on this single DVD disc....... I'm not a "fanboy" of either system because I don't possess any of them. I have just been researching.

so my boyfriend and i have been going out for a few months [we're 20 and 21] but we really care about each other, going as far as to say i adore you to each other for the first time [to anyone]. I know he's getting me jewelry for christmas, which is exceeding the budget I set which makes it harder to buy stuff. Voting Question: Will these parts work together for building my new computer?
My budget is $2000 or less and I'm going to try to make a computer that will have some longevity and not need to replace it after another 4 years. Anyway, input is much appreciated (anything to keep me some research time). Here is what I have so far in my search for computer parts: CPU and Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductCombos.aspx?Item=N82E16819115036&SubCategory=343&SortField=0&PageSize=10&page=1 * Rosewill RX950-D-B 950W ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91 SLI 8800Ultra SLI CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply - Retail * Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8500 - Retail CPU is the fastest I could find for a decent price and had a big L2 cache. I could use some advice on the power supply. The one I picked was recommended for the CPU by newegg. It has a max of 950W, 2 80mm fans, and should fit into the case. Also, it says the psu is "crossfire ready" and not crossfire certified; will that make a difference? Or does it just mean that they haven't tested that psu with crossfire yet? Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131344 * ASUS P5Q3 LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail Extreme stability for DDR3 CrossFireX w/ 8-phase power quick FSB, 4 memory slots (240 pin), 16 GB max memory supported, Crossfire option for dual video cards if wanted, and lots of potential for expansion and upgrading. I chose this one cause I want the option of using dual graphics cards with Crossfire. I also picked this one because it was DDR3 for memory, and my mom board says it's compatible with DDR3 (where as the other graphics card I was looking at was DDR4 for memory). This is also HDMI ready, has fans, are DX10 compatible, and is Vista ready. CPU Cooling Fan http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134 * ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler - Retail RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231189 * G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail Had to compromise with this. Speed is same as FSB (1333) which is a good thing, Cas latency is 8 (which is not as good), and pin is 240 (which is what I need). Not sure if I really need 8 GB RAM, but figured it couldn't hurt (I'm getting 2 sets of these). HD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136319 * Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s difficult steer - OEM Had decent reviews, big cache, and decent memory storage. Also, I was thinking of going BluRay but don't know if I really have to yet since I could always add one later. Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144151 * APEVIA X-CRUISER-BK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail Sound Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829118105 * Turtle Beach RIVIERA 5.1 Channels 24-bit 48KHz PCI Interface Sound Card - Retail Anything else you think I should add, let me know. I should be able to receive an operating system for free through my school, as well as Microsoft Office, so that stuff I don't have to worry about. What about monitor; any suggestions? Keyboard, mouse, and speakers will be add-ons once everything else has been determined. Oh, and any suggestions on sound cards...need it? need top of line? does it really matter? Voting Question: To PS3 owners: what do you like and dislike about your PS3?
My wife just bought me a PS3 for my birthday. We've been away from gaming awhile, and haven't played seriously since we got rid of our mod'd Xbox about 5 years ago. She got the PS3 cuz we have a Samsung 1080p 50" television and PS3's bluray player capability sounded good to her. Problem is, we know next to nothing about PS3 outside of that. Most people we know either have Xbox 360 or Wii, and they every adore their systems. To owners of PS3's...what do you like AND dislike about your PS3?

Hi guys. So I just bought a new Sony BDPS350 Blu-ray player, and I look it has an 'optical digital audio out'. I have a (3 or 4 year old) Sony DAV SC6 surround sound unit - which has an 'optical digital in' socket. As I've never used digital cables before (only ever phono leads) - I'm wondering is there a cable I can buy to link the 2 together to give better sound quality? and if so.. will the DAV SC6 unit do every the 'decoding' or whatever it needs to with a digital signal. As you can look I'm no expert so any help and ideas where I can receive a guide (in the UK) would be fantastic, cheers.

Voting Question: Which kind of Playstation 3 should I get?
I am in the market for a playstation 3, however I do not know if it makes sense to receive an 80 gig, 60 gig, 40, etc. I do already have an external difficult steer I use for backing up my pc, would that work for the PS3 also? I mostly want the PS3 for the bluray player and playing my downloaded divx files on it with some occasional gaming. I am also wondering if it makes a difference performance wise if I got a used one vs a new one. Do older ones malfunction more? or, are ones made after a certain date known to work a lot better? Also, on the flip side, are the newer ones less hackable? Is there any difference in firmware or is that every upgradable? Please only respond if you know what your talking about and not answering based off assumptions. I mean most people would assume the new ones would have less problems because they're new but the reality is sometimes used ones are just fine and money is an important factor here. Thanks.
